Anti-Spam Policy

Digital Contact is against spam in all its forms and manifestations. Our anti-spam policy is crucial to every aspect of our business. Therefore, by creating a Digital Contact account and agreeing to our Terms of Use, you are also agreeing to this anti-spam policy. We realize you might have a few questions about our anti-spam practices and have included some of the ones you might find important. If you have further questions not listed below, please feel free to contact us.

How do we define spam?

In plain words, we understand spam as it’s put in the Spamhaus project, namely:
Spam is an electronic message where:
(A) the recipient's personal identity and context are irrelevant because the message is equally applicable to many other potential recipients;
(B) the recipient has not verifiably granted deliberate, explicit, and still-revocable permission for it to be sent.

What email addresses are available to distibution with Digital Contact?

The main criteria is a clear permission from a  potential recipient to receive emails from you. It could be obtained through:

  1. A  subscribe form on your web site.
  2. An opt-in checkbox on a form. Note, that it must not be checked by default, the person completing the form must willingly select the checkbox to indicate they want to hear from you.
  3. An offline form where you should explain a potential recipient that you would be contacting them by email AND they ticked a box to agree to it.
  4. A business card  from a client. Still, you must explicitly ask for permission to add them to your list. If they dropped their business card in a fishbowl at a trade show, there must be a sign indicating they will be contacted by email about that specific topic.

All in all, YOU CAN ONLY EMAIL ANYONE IF THEY HAVE CLEARLY GIVEN YOU PERMISSION TO DO SO.

What email addresses are available to distibution with Digital Contact?

Anything except the examples above isn’t an exception to the rule. Still, we would like to specify that by using Digital Contact, you agree not to import or send to any email address which:.

  1. You bought, loaned, rented or in any way acquired from a third party, no matter what they claim about quality or permission.
  2. You scraped or copy and pasted from the web. Just because people publish their email address doesn’t mean they want to hear from you.
  3. You haven’t contacted via email in the last 2 years. People change their email addresses. Also, they forget who they’ve given their email address in the past 2 years.

Just remember, bombarding such email addresses with marketing emails won’t be effective and will more than likely end up with your email marked as spam by many of your recipients and your sender reputation harmed.

What email addresses are available to distibution with Digital Contact>?

Every email you send using Digital Contact must contain the following information:

  1. An unsubscribe link that instantly removes the subscriber from your list. Also, you must process the unsubscriptions properly and respect the user’s wish to unsubscribe.
  2. The name and physical address of the sender. If you’re sending an email for your client, you’ll need to include your client’s details instead.

How we deal with the spam distribution?

Digital Contact has a large monitoring infrastructure to ensure you comply with our anti-spam policy. It includes the following:

  1. Our software is directly integrated into the spam reporting systems. Our system keeps track of the users whose campaigns are marked as spam. If you receive a complaint rate greater than 0.3% of all recipients to a single ISP (service providers, such as gmail, yahoo, etc.) (that’s 30 complaints for every 10,000 recipients) you will receive a warning email requesting an explanation and giving you advice. This is a generous figure that takes into account false spam reports. Higher levels of complaints will result in accounts being banned or terminated.
  2. Our team verifies all large lists imported into our software. Until we’ve given it the all clear, you can’t send to it.
  3. We monitor blacklists and our abuse accounts all day every day. We can pinpoint who is causing us delivery problems or attracting complaints very easily.
  4. We have access to the content of your campaigns and we verify the campaigns you send. If they don’t match the Anti-Spam Policy and Prohibited Content Statement requirements, you won’t be allowed to send them.
  5. Any accounts, blocked for SPAM are not eligible for partial or full refund

If we do discover that you’re emailing people without their permission, we will terminate your account with Digital Contact immediately.
